Your Android can feel a lot faster by changing a few settings!

Hey Waiheke Android users. Part of why Android is such a brilliant OS is the vast amount of customization options on offer.

By default, your Android device has transition animations at 1x speed. This creates a smooth gliding effect between windows and applications but if you prefer snappy responsiveness I would recommend enabling developer mode and changing all drawing values to 0.5x. You will notice the difference immediately. Here is how to do so: Go to your phone settings and enable Developer Options.

Most Android: Settings > About Phone > Build Number

Samsung and Some Others: Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Build Number

Tap on the build number 5 times. You'll see a small notification saying "Developer Options Have Been Enabled" at the bottom of the screen.

Now go back to the main screen of Settings.

Scroll down to a new option towards the very bottom called Developer Options. Open it.

Scroll down to the section called "Drawing."

In that section, there are three things you can mess with to get to your desired speed of the UX:

  • Window Animation Scale

  • Transition Animation Scale

  • Animator Duration Scale

I always set all three of them to .5x, but you may like a different combination or turning them off altogether. Now go forth and do whatever it was you were already doing, but with snappier animations. Island Tech 09 870 5698 Support@islandtech.nz
