News - Neuralink goes to human trials

Elon Musk's company Neuralink has received approval from the hospital institutional review board to go ahead with recruiting human subjects for Neuralink brain implants. They will be using a robot to surgically implant a coin-sized device into the brain which will be able to read brain signals and track them on external software. So that means that if this technology goes ahead as planned in a generation or two you might have some REALLY important apps on your phone. The mission statement of the trial is to achieve a connection directly from the brain to move a cursor on a screen. The only viable candidates currently are 22yo+ quadriplegics, people who are paralyzed in all four limbs. The trial is to test the safety and viability of the surgical process. This is fascinating tech and is guaranteed to cause huge cultural shifts and cause a great deal of controversy. We at Island Tech would love to hear what the Waiheke Island community thinks about Neuralink? Would you get the tech if it was proven safe? Do you think this tech is inevitable for humanity, or a fever dream of an egocentric megalomaniac? https://www.wired.com/story/everything-we-know-about-neuralinks-brain-implant-trial/
