ChatGPT sprouts ears and eyes in new update

Tim here, I am curious how many fellow islanders engage with ChatGPT regularly. What is your experience like and what do you use it for? Founders of ChatGPT at OpenAI have announced today that ChatGPT LLM will be rolling out voice commands and image recognition on their paid subscription app for Chat GPT. This means that you will be able to speak commands and questions to ChatGPT and it will be able to generate speech back to you immediately. The update also introduces image recognition so that you can upload an image and receive responses using the image as input. Here is a handy example of how you could utilize this tech:

ChatGPT’s new capabilities show that OpenAI is treating its artificial intelligence models, which have been in the works for years now, as products with regular, iterative updates. The company’s surprise hit, ChatGPT, is looking more like a consumer app that competes with Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa. How has this technology helped you? I have found that Google still reigns supreme in my mind when I have specific linear requests. However, ChatGPT allows me to introduce a level of specificity that a Google search can never hope to achieve. Tell me that Google could achieve this level of nonsense:

“The new voice technology — capable of crafting realistic synthetic voices from just a few seconds of real speech — opens doors to many creative and accessibility-focused applications,” the company wrote in a blog post. “However, these capabilities also present new risks, such as the potential for malicious actors to impersonate public figures or commit fraud.”

The new features will begin rolling out to paying subscribers in the coming two weeks. To activate voice features, users need to head to the “settings” menu in the app, then head to “new features” and opt-in to voice conversations. They then have to tap the headphone button in the top-right corner and select the voice they want.

Voice will be limited to the ChatGPT Android and iOS apps on an opt-in beta basis initially, while image search will be landing on all platforms by default.
