Apple admits defeat?

Rejoice!

iPhone 15: Apple forced to ditch lightning charger. How many cables do you need for different devices? Lightning, Type C, USB, Micro USB. It becomes a tangled and tiresome process. How many times have you needed to charge your device away from home only to be frustrated that your friend only has a lightning cable for your Android phone? Oops, I guess you aren't texting them back tonight. Apple has announced that starting with its new iPhone 15 they will be discontinuing their proprietary lightning charging cable. It's an adaptation that Apple was pressured into after European Union rules will require smartphones and other electronic devices to have a USB-C port by the end of 2024 at the latest. Yes, this does come with the downside of upfront cable waste as the Apple consumer base ditches their old for their new but long term we need universal cables to be the standard. It is better for all consumers. We at Island Tech hope this is a step in a new direction for a company infamous for its unfriendly consumer practices. Happy Friday!
